David Nonis, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Tuesday the hockey club has signed forward Spencer Abbott to a one-year contract.
Abbott, 26, made his NHL debut last season on October 5 against the Ottawa Senators.
The 5-9, 175-pound forward played 64 games for the Toronto Marlies in 2013-14, collecting 69 points (17 goals, 52 assists) and 16 penalty minutes. The Hamilton, Ontario native also registered 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in 11 playoff games with the Marlies. Abbott was named an AHL Second Team All-Star and was selected to participate in the 2014 All-Star Classic, but missed the game due to injury.
Prior to joining the Maple Leafs organization, Abbott spent four seasons at the University of Maine collecting 146 points (54 goals, 92 assists) in 151 games. During the 2011-12 season, Abbott led the entire NCAA in scoring with 62 points (21 goals, 41 assists) in 39 games.
