The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Wednesday that forward Carter Ashton has been assigned to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.
Ashton, 23, has been held pointless in seven regular season games with the Maple Leafs this season. The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native collected two assists in three games with the Toronto Marlies during a conditioning stint earlier this year.
The Marlies begin a five-game road trip on Saturday night when they travel to Texas for a 7 p.m. (CST) meeting with the Texas Stars (AHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars). The Maple Leafs return to the ice tonight when they host the Washington Capitals at 7 p.m.
