On Sunday, July 8, challengers will voyage from Belfort, a veteran stage city of the tour, to Porrentruy, in the Swiss city's first time horde of a stage on the Tour.
Stage 8 has medium mountains with a total 1,046m high point over a distance of 157.5 km.
The constant dips and climbs will be pretty difficult for contenders amongst medium mountains. The riders have to scrabble their way up just about a kilometer above sea level, mountaineering over 600 meters up from their starting point in Belfort. There’s no peak finish but there are seven climbs in just 157km and the last three all have very tough sections.
An about half way through this venture, the riders will intersect from France to Switzerland. This will give riders a chance for the tough fight, which will give them one last climb about 20 meters from the close line. The high point will come only 16km from the finish.
After one day another 50 km longer medium mountains stage come into view following three straight days of flat sprints. This will be the time when many of the top contenders start to set up themselves, before the individual time-trial the next day.
