Team USA Men's Basketball faces what will likely be its least difficult test when it takes on Tunisia today at 5:15pm eastern time. However, it will not be much of a contest to see.
Team U.S. is listed as favorites to win against the Republic of Tunisia.
For the United States, Kevin Durant lead the way with a 22-point, 9-rebound performance as Team USA thrashed Tony Parker’s France by 27 points on Sunday. Despite sloppy play and some foul trouble in the first half, the U.S. was able to come back in the game in the second stanza.
Kevin Love had also pitched in with 14 points, Kobe Bryant had 10, and LBJ was the leading assist-man with 8 dimes for the Americans. It’s worth noting that every member of Team USA scored the basketball. It was a remarkable victory against a French team stacked with NBA talent.
Coming off an impressive 98-71 victory over France, (1-0) Team USA will look to keep the momentum going as it faces Africa’s northernmost county of (0-1) Tunisia, who made its Olympic debut with a 56-60 loss to Nigeria.
Tunisia is ranked 32nd in the world by FIBA, the lowest ranked team in the competition. They lost their opening game to Nigeria and boast no NBA players in their squad. Center Salah Mejri did play for Utah Jazz summer league team, but that's about as close as they get. Aside from Mehdi Jamel Hafsi, who plays in France, the entire Tunisian team plays in the Arab world, and are not familiar with the international level competition. They almost made a fourth quarter comeback against Nigeria yesterday due to offensive production problem of Nigeria.
