Australia will face China today at 11:30 a.m. for fifth in overall standings. China didn’t match their performance in Beijing, but will be looking to finish in the same place they are world ranked – No. 5.

Australian team owns a total of 10 points from their group matches. It ties in score with the top 2 teams in the Pool B, Argentina and New Zealand. But it is ranked as third in the Pool due on the basis of goal difference and missed to be in Semi-finals. In Australia’s last group match of the Pool stage against Argentina team, Argentina needed a draw to get to the Semis and they held their nerves. Argentina played cleverly to achieve the minimum required result to make their 4th consecutive appearance in the Olympics semi -finals.

On the other hand, China has 7 points on its scoring card as a result of 2 wins, 2 losses and a draw. In its last group stage match against the team Japan, Silver Medalists from Beijing had to face an upset loss (1-0) from 9th ranked Japan. This loss made sure that China missed the cut to semi-finals while hosts Great Britain qualified for semi-finals. The lone goal of the match came through Rika Komazawa in 16th minute of the other hard fought match.
