On the first day of Wyndham championship 2012, Carl Pettersson shot an 8-under 62 to take the first-round lead.
Just four days after finishing in third at the PGA Championship, his best finish ever at a major, the big Swede is up to more of the same at Sedgefield Country Club at the Wyndham Championship. Pettersson shot an eight-under 62 and currently sits alone in first place.
Pettersson, a Swede who became an American citizen during the offseason, had his best round at the Wyndham since 2008, when he set the tournament record with a second-round 61 and went on to win in his adopted hometown. Hometown in the terms as Pettersson went to high school in Greensboro, calls Raleigh home.
David Mathis and Tim Clark were a stroke behind, Tom Gillis, Scott Stallings and Troy Matteson shot 64, and Matt Every had a 65 in the final event before the FedEx Cup playoffs.
Golf is an unpredictable game and normally after every round the leaders may not be the same. So, it will not be a surprise when the leader after Thursday takes a big step back on Friday.
However, anything can be expected from Pettersson – who on the first day racked up eight birdies and no bogeys in what was essentially a perfect round of golf.
He loves this course and he’s having a great season, and if all of this is not enough then his form on Thursday has shown that he is able to surprise everyone.
