After two rounds of golf at the 2012 Barclays, some familiar faces struggled hard to creep up the leaderboard. Beyond those who started off strong on Thursday (Sergio Garcia, Tiger Woods, Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson), there are also those who surged back on Friday after ho-hum performances in the first round namely Brandt Snedeker, Matt Kuchar and Carl Pettersson.
Snedeker has been a very good putter this season and his driving accuracy and greens in regulation percentage are way up through Friday with two-under par. Snedeker finished tied for third at the Barclays last year.
Matt Kuchar has not only had eight top-10 finishes and a victory this year, he placed second at the Barclays last year. This year on Friday, he finished with three-under par.
Carl Pettersson is one of the favorites in the tournament. After a rough first round, Pettersson bounced back in tremendous fashion on Friday, posting a five-under par in the second round . Pettersson ranks sixth in putting per hole this and he’s been one of the tournament’s best putters so far. His driving accuracy and GIR seem to be improving as well.
Bedsides all these, Tiger’s back as he managed a 2-under 69, a good effort in the afternoon on greens that tend to get crusty. Garcia was impressive as he made bogey on the third hole with what he called his worst swing of the week and atoned for that with a tee shot on the par-5 fourth that restored his momentum and sent him to a 68. Watney went eagle-birdie on the par 5s on the front nine and then survived a roller coaster of birdies and bogeys on the back nine that gave him a 69.
