The old foes Australia and South Africa will face each other in a fierce battle on super Sunday at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Both the teams have the ability to provide the spectators with close and entertaining encounters and both are looking to get to the semi-finals by dominating the other side.
The George Bailey-led side`s nine-wicket victory over 2007 champions India on Friday must have raised their morales after topping Group B with wins over Ireland and the West Indies and they are also the favorites on Sunday.
South Africa, on the other hand, would have to regroup after they had a dramatic last hour slip in the Super Eights game at the hands of unpredictable Pakistan team from a winning position. The Proteas virtually had the game in their bag before Umar Gul made the opposition’s hopes alive and let them have the victory. The South Africans cannot afford to repeat any such mistake against Australia on Sunday as that would mean exit for them and would only strengthen the “chokers” tag labelled on them in big tournaments. Australia are totally in form with the top-order batsmen and the frontline bowlers performing ta their best. The main trial for South Africa would be to stop the smashing Australian openers Shane Watson and David Warner, who have become the most successful pair in the T20 Internationals, from dictating terms on their bowlers. The likely Australian line-up will include: George Bailey (Capt.), Dan Christian, Pat Cummins, Xavier Doherty, Ben Hilfenhaus, Brad Hogg, David Hussey, Michael Hussey, Glenn Maxwell, Clint McKay, Mitchell Starc, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Shane Watson, Cameron White.
