French player Edouard Roger-Vasselin, who is raked 65, will face 81st ranked German Tobias Kamke in the second round of the Swiss Indoors Basel Open 2013 on Thursday.
Roger- Vasselin escaped out of a likely huge upset in his opening round match as he defeated Stanislas Wawrinka in straight sets with 6-4, 6-3 with all the Swiss fans cheering him. Roger- Vasselin performed well by capitalizing on his break point opportunities and took advantage of the erroneous play by opponent Wawrinka. The Frenchman is 4-4 in major events on indoor hard courts this year and is 5-1 in qualifiers and challengers. He has also won 7 of his last 10 matches.
On the other and, Tobias Kamke sailed smoothly through both of his opponents in the qualifying stage and did the same in his first round match as he beat Victor Hanescu in straight sets with 6-4, 6-4. Kamke perfomed epically and won 81% of his first serve points and played beautifully at the net. Kamke owns a record of 3-4 in major events and 9-2 in qualifiers and challengers on indoor hard courts this year.
The head to head series between these two players is tied at 2-2. However, Kamke has won the last two games. They last met in 2012 at the challenger in Petange where Kamke stood victorious after winning the straight sets with 6-4, 7-6.
