On Day 2 of the opening test match, an unexpected and promising 10th-wicket partnership between Mohammad Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar had added 111 runs in 38.1 overs and took India’s score from 346 for 9 to a formidable 457 on Thursday.
When the English team was preparing for their batting turn after India lost four wickets for just two runs after lunch, the two bowlers took the charge as Bhuvneshwar scored 58 and Shami made an unbeaten 51 to solidify their team’s position with the aim to grab some Test win overseas after three years.
Afterwards, when England started their innings they lost their skipper Alistair Cook as he was bowled at 5 by Shami. At stumps Sam Robson (20*) and Gary Ballance (15*) made the hosts to reach 43 for 1.
