Hennessy Sports Canada’s top prospects Logan Cotton McGuinness and Tyler Asselstine battled to victory Saturday night at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.

The undefeated McGuinness, fighting out of Orangeville, Ontario, improved to 13-0-1 with six knockouts, as he went to war with Mexico’s Adrian Verdugo.

Utilizing a terrific body attack from the outset of the bout, McGuinness, the NABA Lightweight Champion, was able to counter Verdugo’s aggressiveness and control the action, adding in powerful uppercuts as he continued to score consistently throughout the fight.

Although the game Verdugo kept up the intensity throughout the eight rounder, McGuinness displayed superior boxing skills, winning by judge’s scores of 80-72, 80-72 and 79-73. Riding a three bout winning streak entering the bout, Verdugo moves to 17-3-1 (14KO’s) with the loss.

The undercard featured the return of former amateur standout Tyler Asselstine of Kingston, Ontario, facing off against Longueuil, Quebec’s Gerard Audate in a scheduled four round featherweight bout.

Displaying fast hands and excellent ring movement, Asselstine was able to hammer away at the outgunned Audate during the balance of the first round.

Towards the middle of the second round, Asselstine drilled Audate with a left hook, followed by a number of hammering uppercuts which forced referee John Wylie to stop the bludgeoning at 2:10 of the second stanza.

With the win, the all action Asselstine improves to 2-0-0 (1KO), while Audate falls to 0-3-0.
