With just over a month left in the regular season and eight games to go, FC Edmonton is in a battle for its playoff life and its closest competition is coming to town on Sunday kick off at 4 p.m..

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers have moved ahead of FC Edmonton for the first time this season, thanks to a 1-0 win against the NSC Minnesota Stars on Wednesday night. The Strikers have now jumped over FC Edmonton in the standings putting them in fifth with 27 points and leaving Edmonton in the sixth and final playoff spot with 25 points and eight games to go.

This will be Fort Lauderdale’s first trip north to the City of Champions. The two teams split the games in Florida with Edmonton winning the season opener 2-1 on April 9 and the Strikers handing FC Edmonton a 3-0 loss at Lockhart on July 30. 

Goalkeepers Lance Parker and Jaswinder Gill remain out of the line up with injuries, along with defender Paul Matthijs. Midfielder and co-goal scoring leader Shaun Saiko is suspended for accumulating five yellow cards. He will serve one game.

FC Edmonton will be wearing their 1982 Edmonton Drillers jerseys for the second time this season against the Strikers and for the first time at home. Fans will be able to purchase their own retro jerseys at the game. Limited quantities will be available at the merchandise tents.

– FC Edmonton has scored five goals and has conceded 15 over the winless stretch.
– FC Edmonton has entered a Facebook challenge with the San Antonio Scorpions. The team to accumulate the most “Likes” over a month will get a donation from the losing team towards its Kicks for Kids program.
