With its second win in a row, Canada qualified for the semi-final stage of the XVI Pan American Games Guadalajara 2011 Women’s Football Tournament. In the 20 October victory, striker Christina Julien scored the lone goal against Argentina at the Estadio Omnilife in Guadalajara, Mexico. Canada also won two days earlier, a 3:1 victory over Costa Rica on Tuesday.

‘We wanted to qualify for the next round,’ said John Herdman. ‘It is job done, mission accomplished. We can now sit back and see how the other pool plays out.’

Canada’s next and final group match is Saturday 22 October at 20.00 local (21.00 ET / 18.00 PT).

Canada’s overall record this 2011 season is 12 wins, two draws and six losses. In the 20 October victory, Julien scored her fourth goal of the season.

Canada is the defending bronze medal winner from the last Pan American Games Women’s Football Tournament in 2007. Canada is currently preparing for January’s 2012 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying tournament in Vancouver, BC.
