Webb elected as new CONCACAF president

Jeffrey Webb of the Cayman Islands was officially elected Wednesday as the new president of CONCACAF. Since Webb was running unopposed, the vote was held by acclamation at the confederation’s congress in Budapest, Hungary.

The 47-year-old banker and president of the Cayman Islands Football Association will complete the four-year term of Jack Warner, who was elected a sixth time to the post in May 2010 but resigned a month later after 20 years in office.

Webb also serves as Deputy Chairman of the FIFA Internal Audit Committee and sits on the FIFA Transparency and Compliance Committee. In addition, he is chairman of the CONCACAF Youth Committee and completed his term as chairman of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Normalization Committee last Tuesday, following the organization’s Ordinary Congress that was also held in Budapest.

Webb becomes the fourth president in CONCACAF’s 51-year history: Ramon Coll Jaumet (Costa Rica, 1961-1968), Joaquin Soria Terrazas (Mexico, 1968-1990) and Warner (Trinidad & Tobago, 1990-2011).

Chung wins FIFA Order of Merit

Jamaica’s Winston Chung received the FIFA Order of Merit on Thursday at the opening ceremony of the 62nd FIFA Congress at the Budapest Congress and World Trade Centre.

The Order of Merit is FIFA’s highest honor and is given to those who have made profound contributions to the sport.

Some of Chung’s many accomplishments include founding the Santos Football Club in Jamaica (1964), working with the American Youth Soccer Organization in the United States, acting as technical director of the Cayman Islands Football Association and serving as the technical director for the Jamaican Football Federation.

His abilities, however, went beyond the field of play. Chung was also known for his efforts on behalf of disadvantaged youth, creating opportunities and solutions for them wherever he worked.
