Toronto FC announced Monday they have acquired allocation money from the San Jose Earthquakes in exchange for midfielder Sam Cronin. As per league and team regulations financial terms were not released.

Cronin, 23 was signed by Toronto after being drafted in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft. The product of Wake Forest was selected in the 1st Round, 2nd overall.
            
“We want to thank Sam for his commitment and hard work with the club,” said manager, director of soccer Mo Johnston. “We have some flexibility at the midfielder position and this move allows us some room under the cap to perhaps get another player or two in here for the second half of the season.”

Cronin featured in six games for Toronto FC this season, four of those as a starter compiling 353 minutes with one assist. In his rookie season, the midfielder played 27 games logging 2,363 minutes finishing 2009 with one goal and four assists.
