Tennis CanadaFormer Wimbledon finalist and Rogers Cup runner up confirm their participation

Marion Bartoli of France and Russia’s Vera Zvonareva, both ranked in the Top 10 on the WTA Tour,  have confirmed their participation in the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank, which will be held from August 4-13, 2012 at Uniprix Stadium in Montreal.

“It is great to know that Marion Bartoli and Vera Zvonareva have already included Montreal on their schedule for next summer,” said Rogers Cup tournament director Eugène Lapierre. “Both players have had success here in the past, so we are looking forward to seeing them again.”

World no. 7 Zvonareva was the runner up to Caroline Wozniacki the last time the women were in Montreal in 2010. The Russian, who has been ranked as high as no. 2, is a two-time Grand Slam finalist and has won 12 career titles on Tour, including two in 2011.

“The fans are very knowledgeable in Montreal and it is easy to see that they really love tennis,” said Zvonareva.”It was amazing to play a Monday afternoon final in front of so many people two years ago and I am really looking forward to playing there again in 2012.”

World No. 9 Bartoli is one of the most interesting players in the women’s game. She was a finalist at Wimbledon in 2007 and reached the semifinals in front of her hometown fans at Roland-Garros last spring. In 2011, Bartoli added two titles to her trophy tally to bring her career total to 7.

“The French culture makes me feel at home when I visit Montreal and I always get a lot of support from the crowd who always adopt me as one of their own,” said Bartoli.

In 2012, for the first time in tournament history, main draw play at the Rogers Cup will begin on Tuesday August 7 with the singles final scheduled for Monday August 13 at 7 p.m. in the evening.
