Eugenie Bouchard and Filip Peliwo to Play for Junior Wimbledon Titles

Eugenie Bouchard (Westmount, QC) and Filip Peliwo (Vancouver, BC) both advanced to the junior Wimbledon singles finals on Friday at the all-England Club.

After reaching two straight semifinals at the Australian Open, Bouchard advanced to her first Grand Slam singles final on the strength of a 7-6(3), 6-4 win over Anett Kontaveit of Estonia. The 18-year-old becomes the first Canadian girl to reach a Major singles final since
Sonya Jeyaseelan in 1994 at Roland-Garros.

She will take on Elina Svitolina of the Ukraine in her first appearance in a Major singles final. Svitolina defeated Françoise Abanda (Montreal, QC) 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 in the other girls semifinal to prevent an all-Canadian championship match.

For his part, Peliwo earned a spot in his third consecutive Grand Slam singles final this year thanks to a 5-7, 7-6(3), 6-3 victory over
American Mitchell Krueger after saving five match points in the second set. He will take on Aussie Luke Saville in the final as he hopes the third time will be lucky in his quest for a first Major title. Saville defeated Peliwo in the Australian Open final in January.
