Levine booked his spot in the final eight on Wednesday following a 7-5, 6-4 win over American Brian Baker, ranked no. 59 in the world. He will face another American, Sam Querrey, in the quarter-finals on Thursday. Levine, who is a qualifier into the main draw, has already won five matches this including two over Top 100 players. Currently ranked no. 104 on the ATP rankings, Levine achieved a career-high ranking of no. 69 in 2012, a season which included two ATP quarter-final appearances and second round showings at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon.

Levine, who had defended American colours his entire playing career, decided to represent his birth country and play for Canada beginning in 2013. The International Tennis Federation (ITF) rules dictate that there is a 90-day waiting period from the time a player applies to change nationalities before they can represent their new country in international competition. Therefore, Levine is unable to play for Canada in the team’s upcoming Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group tie against Spain in Vancouver in February, but will eligible for all following ties.
