By Stephen Pate – After a few years of trying, Microsoft has a winner with customers in the Surface Pro 3 a 12&Prime tablet that for some people is a laptop replacement.
The Educational price of 10% off is being extended to everyone until January 5th along with a free sleeve at the Microsoft Store in Canada
.
At the US store, Microsoft USA is offering $100 off and a free sleeve for the i5 and up models which now start at $899 without a keyboard.
Here’s a fun Christmas ad, compared with the MacBook Air.
That’s probably a fair comparison. The MacBook Air is one of the most popular laptops. It’s small, light and easy to find in stores. People who have them like them.
The Surface Pro 3 offers a few things the Mac doesn’t like a touch screen, pen, a removable keyboard and it runs Windows 8.1 apps natively.
I’m a Windows user who has an iPad so I’m probably going to pick a Surface Pro 3 as a super tablet but that is not certain.
Comparing the Surface Pro 3 with the MacBook Air on price, the discounts bring the Surface 3 within the competitive range of the Apple laptop. Apple prices are from Best Buy and include seasonal sales pricing.
It’s hard to compare them since each has its own strengths but I am guessing Microsoft will keep its prices lower. The MacBook Air is more popular than the Surface Pro 3 and it’s hard to justify a higher price.
