Prophesying the End of Days can make Jehovahs Witnesses money calling for end of the world.

Roger Ebert @ebertchicago, the esteemed movie critic of the Chicago Tribune and the famed Siskel and Ebert show, has discovered Twitter in a big way.
A prolific journalist, Ebert has become an even more prolific tweeter who seemingly suffers from insomnia as do I.
It’s not so much insomnia as a life long desire to watch late night movies like the Ninth Gate on television.“Prophesying the End of Days can make you money, but has a limited shelf life.”was his post around midnight last night.
“People have short memories,” @sdpate replied. “you can repeat the act after a reasonable amount of time. JWs have been doing it since the 1860s.”  They have named the date for the End of Days at least 16 times since then.
I’ve watched the religion for 6 decades and marvel at their 7 million adherents who regularly ignore the stupidity of believing one wrong End of Days prediction after another.
For a time, I was one of them. My mother converted to be a Jehovah’s Witness when I was 5, much to the anger of my father who was the typical lapsed Catholic. He wasn’t so much as lapsed as a man working two jobs to support a family and weekend tavern habit with a journalist’s cynicism about religion.

So for the next 25 years I heard nothing but Armageddon warnings, about the war between Jesus and Satan and how only Jehovah’s Witnesses would make it through to paradise on earth.

Fire would dance on the surface of the world in the End of Days consuming the wicked – which meant everyone not out selling Watchtowers on the weekends. As a child, it was an intriguing concept and held in place by daily bible readings, five hours of meetings at the Kingdom Hall, bible study at the dining room table and sundry other bits of brainwashing. I went along for the ride. Then around 14 years old, the normal age for boys to seek adventure beyond church, I discovered Beyond the Fringe. You were perhaps expecting me to say girls. I had discovered them long before that.Beyond the Fringe was a London West End satirical skit with Dudley Moore (10Arthur), Peter Cook, Jonathan Miller and Alan Bennett. In many ways they were the forerunners for Monty Python and were successors to The Goon Show, Hancock’s Halfhour and other post-war British comedy. The Beyond the Fringe LP of their performance was produced by George Martin who would soon produce for The Beatles records. His early days at EMI Parlophone records included odd jobs like producing comedy records which he he apparently enjoyed.

Along with sacred topics like British participation in the World War II, Beyond the Fringe lampooned people who prophesied the end of the world in a skit called “The End of the World.”

I won’t repeat the punch line and spoil the audio clip but suffice it to say, my rebellious teen mind latched onto this and never believed in Armageddon with the same breathless fervor of the devout Jehovah’s Witness.  My mother tried in vain to destroy the record. She understood it’s corrosive danger.
Of course, comedy records are a poor substitute for religious belief. Other than the ridiculous image of people sitting on a high mountain waiting for God to end it all, I had no proof He wasn’t coming.
Rock and roll, Bob Dylan, The Beatles and life were much more interesting to this teenager than marching door to door on Saturday telling people to buy the Watchtower and Awake and avoid the end of the world.
And here is how they get people to stay in a religion based on the most ludicrous of propositions while failing over and over to deliver – “love and marriage, love and marriage, go to together with a baby carriage.”
I fell in love or lust with a girl at 19 and got married. She was a Jehovah’s Witness and zip goes the strings of your heart. I was married, bought a house and fathered two wonderful children before long. So for another five years I tried my darnedest to fall into line and believe God was coming with fire next time.
Luckily the Watchtower announced the date He was coming – October 1, 1975. Just like the Beyond the Fringeskit, JW leaders had read the ancient scrolls, manuscripts and papyrus to determine this was THE END OF DAYS.
Even if I didn’t believe, what were the odds? It was like insurance. Hang in there with a really bad premise because it was only 5 years away and you might hit the jackpot.
As time marched on closer and closer to October 1, 1975, people were leaving their jobs, selling homes, moving to far away places to become missionaries and otherwise prove to God they were his kind of people.  The excitement started to build around 1973 and JW’s were adding new members at a rapid clip.
Of course, God didn’t end the world on October 1st, 1975. Nothing happened and just like those silly people sitting on the mountain top, JW’s did a collective “Huh? What happened?”
Like the satirical skit, the Watchtower leaders shrugged their shoulders and said they would try again. “Same time tomorrow. We must get a winner one day.”
Restless, I headed into Charlottetown to UPEI Library and later the Confederation Library to research the Jehovah’s Witness religion. One of the secrets the leaders of the JW’s learned was that publishing builds a religion. If you can create another “world view” in print, people will believe it. That’s why they come to your door regularly with The Watchtower and Awake magazines. They print their own bibles and books with their slant to theology.
What I discovered was that the Jehovahs Witnesses religion (International Bible Students IBS back then) started back in the 1860s on the same premise – prophesying the End of Days.
During the 1830s and 1840s, Seventh Day Adventists had predicted the end of the world so many times, their faithful lost faith. Charles Taze Russell, the IBS / JW founder, took some of their bible dating techniques and teachings from other religion and started predicting the End of Days on his own.
In a corporate raider move that Donald Trump would admire, he stole The Watchtower magazine from another religious man and started churning out magazines predicting the End of Days.
From then until now, Jehovahs Witnesses have prophesied the End of the World incorrectly at least 16 times -I’ll put the list from Wikipedia as end note.
Amazingly, I remembered some of them vaguely from things people would tell me. In every instance of getting it wrong, the faithful Jehovahs Witnesses had swallowed the rationalization given them in the pages of The Watchtower.
So you can make money prophesying the End of Days. The Jehovahs Witnesses religion is rich. They own very valuable real estate all over the world, including some of the choicest spots in Brooklyn New York, printing plants and the free labour of 7 million magazine and book sellers around the world.

Dates Jehovah’s Witnesses prophesied as the End of the World

• 1877: Christ’s kingdom would hold full sway over the earth in 1914; the Jews, as a people, would be restored to God’s favour; the “saints” would be carried to heaven.[52]
• 1891: 1914 would be “the farthest limit of the rule of imperfect men.”[53]
• 1904: “World-wide anarchy” would follow the end of the Gentile Times in 1914.[54]
• 1916: World War I would terminate in Armageddon and the rapture of the “saints”.[55]
• 1917: In 1918, Christendom would go down as a system to oblivion and be succeeded by revolutionary governments. God would “destroy the churches wholesale and the church members by the millions.” Church members would “perish by the sword of war, revolution and anarchy”. The dead would lie unburied. In 1920 all earthly governments would disappear, with worldwide anarchy prevailing.[56]
• 1920: Messiah’s kingdom would be established in 1925 and bring worldwide peace. God would begin restoring the earth. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and other faithful patriarchs would be resurrected to perfect human life and be made princes and rulers, the visible representatives of the New Order on earth. Those who showed themselves obedient to God would never die.[57]
• 1922: The antitypical “jubilee” that would mark God’s intervention in earthly affairs in 1925 would take place in “probably the fall” of that year.[58] The chronology was described as “correct beyond a doubt”,[44]“absolutely and unqualifiedly correct”,[45] bearing “the stamp of approval of Almighty God”[45] and “too sublime to be the result of chance or of human invention”.[45]
• 1924: God’s restoration of the Earth would begin “shortly after” October 1, 1925. Jerusalem would be made the world’s capital. Resurrected “princes” such as AbelNoahMoses and John the Baptist would give instructions to their subjects around the world by radio, and aeroplanes would transport people to and from Jerusalem from all parts of the globe in just “a few hours”.[59]
• 1938: In 1938, Armaggedon was too close for marriage or child bearing.[60]
• 1941: There were only “months” remaining until Armageddon.[61]
• 1942: Armageddon was “immediately before us.”[62]
• 1966: It would be 6000 years since man’s creation in the fall of 1975 and it would be “appropriate” for Christ’s thousand-year reign to begin at that time.[63] Time was “running out, no question about that.”[64]The “immediate future” was “certain to be filled with climactic events … within a few years at most”, the final parts of Bible prophecy relating to the “last days” would undergo fulfillment as Christ’s reign began.
• 1968: No one could say “with certainty” that the battle of Armageddon would begin in 1975, but time was “running out rapidly” with “earthshaking events” soon to take place.[65] In March 1968 there was a “short period of time left”, with “only about ninety months left before 6000 years of man’s existence on earth is completed”.[66]
• 1969: Human existence would not last long enough for young people to grow old; the world system would end “in a few years”. Young Witnesses were told not to bother pursuing tertiary education for this reason.[67]
• 1974: There was just a “short time remaining before the wicked world’s end” and Witnesses were commended for selling their homes and property to “finish out the rest of their days in this old system in the pioneer service”.[68]
• 1984: There were “many indications” that “the end” was closer than the end of the 20th century.[69]

The 1974 citation refers to the announcement of October 1, 1975 which had been predicted back in the 1960s.

1. Funny thing, the “1975ers” the ones that was calling for the end to come in 1975 like Ray Franz, are no longer Jehovah Witnesses. Many others like Ray Franz and Danny Haszard that ware calling foul were the very ones who fouled in the first place! Many ones who mortgages there life to the hilt at the last minute for what they cold get from the would, against the console from the watchtower society, were the ones holding the bag. I was almost one of them but I eventually listen to reason from the watchtower society and the Bible (Mark 13:32-33). Today I am still patiently waiting for Gods day to come on his time table and not mine or someone else’s!

2. For over one hundred years the Watchtower Organization has been “pulling the wool” over the eyes of its’ members. The Jehovah’s Witnesses believe they are in a “spiritual paradise” where everything is honest, true and in the open. Schemes, scandals, scams and cover-ups define the very organization they belong to. Many Jehovah’s Witnesses are now seeing what the Watchtower Organization is hcomment_IDing behind.

3. Thousands of us have had to come to the realization as Mr. Pate. The youth get the brunt, many rules, waiting for such an end. No organized sports, no extracurricular school activities, no birthdays (not important), 5 boring meetings a week plus required door to door work (dress business) so God doesn’t destroy them. College strongly discouraged. No wonder 66% of youth leave! freeminds.org and jwfacts.com
Ask JWs why their Governing Body is selling all their multi-million dollars buildings in Brooklyn and moving out of the City.

4.
Funny thing, the “1975ers” the ones that was calling for the end to come in 1975 like Ray Franz, are no longer Jehovah Witnesses. Many others like Ray Franz and Danny Haszard that ware calling foul !
WOW! Does the Watchtower society think Danny Haszard is as *significant* as Ray Franz?

WOW!

5. The Witnesses made the mistake of trying to calculate a comment_date for “the end” just as the other Christian denominations tried and failed. NO ONE KNOWS the comment_date is the lesson learned. Still, that does not mean there will be no end to Satan’s current rule of this planet. Such an end will come true just as all the other bible prophesies have come true! NOT ONE WORD has yet to fail. Personally, I prefer to believe the holy scriptures rather than the discontent memories of a non-believer. 2Peter3, inspired by God not JWs clearly state we can expect an end to this system of things:vs3- “For YOU know this first, that in the last days there will come rcomment_IDiculers with their rcomment_IDicule, proceeding according to their own desires and saying: “Where is this promised presence of his? Why, from the day our forefathers fell asleep [in death], all things are continuing exactly as from creation’s beginning.”
For according to their wish, this fact escapes their notice,”-read rest in own bible

6. Thank you my brother Daniel. Agreed! I won’t waste time talking about Mr. Hazzard but the mommy issues that Mr. Ebert has with the organization are typical of most that leave the Truth. It seems to me, that such ones never were really in the Truth, or the Truth was never in them. The world spoke abusively of Jesus while he was on earth (Matthew 11:19, Luke 7:34). So what dcomment_ID Jesus about his true disciples? John 15:18, 18 says that the world hated Jesus and the world would hate his disciples too. Its nice to reaffirm who we are. Its truly sad though that these people continue to preach hate. Maybe someday, they will think deep and realize where they really stand on the universal issues and make the neeeded changes. It always amazes me that also use the 1975 comment_date, which the society never dcomment_ID. Unfortunatly, certain ones within the organization, who had no patience, mis-used this comment_date. And where are they now? They either learned a valuable lesson or they left the Truth.

7. Watchtower Jehovah’s Witnesses have little credibility with their own fairy tale primary doctrine of Jesus ‘invisible’ second coming October 1914

I totally remember Jehovah’s Witnesses 1975 I was 11 going on 12. They dcomment_ID say the end was coming because for at least two years I thought when 1975 came Jehovah was going to kill me. It was horrible thinking that God wanted to kill me.

But I so remember that we were being taught that 1975 was the end, some of the friends quit going to the doctors one family dcomment_ID not go to the dentist and all their kcomment_IDs teeth were rotting. One brother bought new ties and called them is Armageddon tires. Some dcomment_ID quit paying their bills. I remember it all. I thought for sure I would be dead. When 1975 came and went I dcomment_ID not know whether I should be happy or sad as living in my family was so horrible I kind of was hoping that Jehovah would do something.

8. If the only reason you were ever a Witness is for the “end to come” then how fickle your Love for Jehovah was. If you Truly love Him and want to Please him, then you will gladly willingly do the work he asked us to do as long as it takes. (2 Pet 3:3,4, 8-10) He is not forcing anyone, he wants only those who are cheerfully doing his will, and quite frankly I dont want to be working shoulder to shoulder with someone who feels forced into this wonderful and pleasurable work.

9. Jehovah’s Witnesses controversy in a nutshell:
Cult-like hard core apocalyptic fundy Watchtower is an 1870 splinter group from the William Miller *great disappointment* fallout.
They have kept followers on the edge of the seat and drained them dry after pinning all their hopes and dreams on the always just around the corner post armageddon *paradise”.

They took everything from many followers including lots and lots of money. Now bloated with wealth… all they can do is stagger around and shoot critic messengers and say the Catholic church was worse with it’s atrocities and exaggerate some of the few beneficial JW legacies.
They ripped off millions most who just grew old and died so can’t say anything back now.
The A number one fear of the Watchtower is bad PR and lawsuits for fraud, just like Scientology same lawyers same spin doctors same shills same everything.

10. Jehovahs Witnesses are worse than just another false religion with bogus teachings. They are predatory wolves in sheeps clothing a true CULT.

Jehovahs Witnesses are WORSE than Scientology because they are older established *Bible based* pseudo Christian cult which makes them more seductively appealing. Moreover…they outreach by making one on one home visitation which makes them intrusive like telemarketers.

Although not as up-front brash about taking your money that still is what they end up trying to do in the end.

(I.E. If the end of the world is coming any minute….what do you need your assets for why not give it to Jehovah?)

11. If you find yourself in a Christian religion which continually lures you with statements that the due time for the end has approached then it gives the indivcomment_IDual Christian and opportunity to obey Jesus Christ.

Luke 21:8
He sacomment_ID: “Look out that YOU are not misled; for many will come on the basis of my name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The due time has approached.’ Do not go after them.

Do not go after them!

A true Christian is someone who obeys Jesus Christ.
Exekiel covers God’s will on false prophets pretty well (Eze 13:1-23)

12. “During the 1830s and 1840s, Seventh Day Adventists had predicted the end of the world so many times, their faithful lost faith.”

The Seventh-day Adventist church wasn’t founded until 1863. It was one of the denominations founded after the failed predictions of William Miller (a Baptist–and he only set one general comment_date and one specific comment_date).

Charles Taze Russell had no connection to Miller’s movement–he wasn’t born until 1852. He was apparently influenced by some writings by George Storrs, who had been a Millerite, but that’s the only connection that can be made with any variety of Adventism.

Today, JWs are sacomment_ID to have 7.3 million members, while Seventh-day Adventists have about 18,000,000.

13. Correct me if Iam wrong,I think the Bible
states that Jehovah hate lies and especially if it,s in his name.
Zion WT 15th 1982 (The battle is definitely mark in the scripture as of Oct.1914.
Time is at hand 1908 Pg.101(THe great day of God almighty which will end in A.D. 1914, the complete onerthrow of earth,s present rulership is already commenced. OK we lied.
WT.9/15/1941 pg.288(we are in the remaning months before Armageddon, not years but months, ok we lied agsin.
AW 5/22/1969 pg. 15( If you are A young person you also need to face the facts that you will NEVER grow old in this present system of things. All info comes from the Governing Body, Men with spiritual direction. If I was God I would tell these men please do not speak in my name, you have lied, have you ever
seen the scripture where I outline what
consitute A false prophet, since you are one of the few groups that continue too lie in my name, please stop bring reproach in my name.

14. if someone told you that you’re house was going to get broken into, and you asked someone to stay up the whole night with you and help you keep on the watch… would you be mad if they thought they heard a noise, investigated it, and came to the conclusion that it was a false alarm?

no, you’d be appreciative that they took the time to keep an eye open for you… people make mistakes.

15. Well the Witnesses have certainly made mistakes. They have moved away from that sort of citing of comment_date now – which is more in line with the scriptures stating that no man knows the day or hour.

That was then this is now. I don’t think they should have comment_approved those unsubstantiated predictions but they are not making up a tale of the end just for the sake of it. The bible does talk about an end to this system of things and that that would happen seems reasonable. I also don’t think that because some Witnesses comment_approved those predictions atleast 30 years ago that all jehovah’s Witnesses today should somehow feel accountable for someone else’s error at such a long time ago. Any field of human endeavour is prone to error and I think these predictions were unfortunate but there comes a time when people just need to move on.

16. Now they changed the rules again and the new stand is that as long as there are people who were alive when people who were alive in 1914 were alive would not die before the end comes. This means if the last person alive in 1914 dies in 2014 then the end of the world will come before someone born in 2014 dies. So they bought themselves another 100 years. Wow, all in the name of institutional survival. So glad I deccomment_IDed to get out after 35 years and actually LIVE my life!

Melissa

17. When dcomment_ID Russell ever predict the “end of days”? I have been studying Russell’s works for almost 50 years. I haven’t found any place that he ever predicted the “end of days.”

Russell, however, was not the founder of the JWs. He dcomment_ID not believe in such an organization, nor in the alleged “Good News” that the JWs preach.

http://ctr.reslight.net

18. hello i believe that much of this is ignorant studies. It was probably to hard for the writer to follow on with his studies so he deccomment_IDed to bash on someone’s religion. Well, then use your knowledge and how many ignorant people believe in the end of the world is in 2012 well we are not so dumb as to tell you it is near. We do fear it but no one knows when it is going to happen due to the fact that there is no given comment_date for this day. So due to the prophecies that have been accomplished we have reason to believe that the world is coming to an end. It may not be tomorrow or in a decade but maybe more than a century from now. Who know’s maybe the world will end because of the human’s population growth over the years and how global warming will kill us all but all i’m certain is that you just chose a few words that would paint the Jehova’s witness as the bad people.

19. I guess the JW are late too the game.Other religious organization for years understood the scripture that stated “No man knows the day or hour.”
Yes people make mistakes, the problem, if you make A mistake admit your mistake, do not blame others. I have fail to read in any JW,s publication in the error of their ways, a apology.
Instead they blame the rank and file.
But they are quick too point out the mistake of other religious group, yes they look forward to the day when these organizations will be destroyed in the end for the mistake they have made. With the JW,s they do not make mistake, they call it “the light get brighter”.

20. The Wartch Tower Bible and Tract Society has properities estimated to be worth over 900 billion American dollars. Followers of the Watch Tower have no comment_content_IDea how enormous this wealth. Jehovah’s Witnesses are measured to have the least education and lowest income of religions claiming Christianity.

Their pennies have added up to quite a fortune for the leaders that live in high end rescomment_IDences in New York City, NY as of 2010. The Watch Tower is reportedly building new facilities outscomment_IDe of New York City between the mount of Adam and the Mount of Eve in Warwick NY.

So for the followers living austere lives and dedicating your time in support of the Watch Tower living on as little as possible for tyhe Watch Tower Jehovah think of it as the Governing Body being members being several times wealtier than the richest person in your town. Now go give them your minimum wage donations.

21.
Funny thing, the “1975ers” the ones that was calling for the end to come in 1975 like Ray.

really think of it like this. R. Franz joined Bethel after Fred Franz began the 1975 fiasco in the mcomment_ID 1960s.

The Watch Tower used not only 1975.

The Watch Tower has predicted “the end” to happen in 1874, 1914, 1925, 1942, 1975, and before the end of the 20th century. These predictions are in Watch Tower documents and were part of Watch Tower doctrine. People that follow the Watch Tower continue to believe the minimizing, workarounds, and denials of these dates.

22. JAM U crack me up, just how much LONGER will we have 2 wait until the true GOD YHWH acts to “bring the B-ORG down” domn’t hold your breath but its coming just as JEHESHUA sacomment_ID it would, along with His PAROUSIA but first to build up his BROTHERS< SONS of the KINGDOM who have been disgraced for 'speaking out' against those 'false prophets' the EVFIL SLAVE!!! y the way do u really believe its 7,000,000 plus that number again BIBLE STudies ????????????? PLEASE, GIVE ME A BREAK......does anyone know how many have been SET FREE in the past 20 years ??? YHWH & His Heavenly organisation KNOW....check out the WATCHMANS POST J.W. etc Bro Robert King anointed in 1996 thrown out for challenging the B-ORG about their involvement in the UNITED NATIONS 1991-2001....LOL

23. he poor kcomment_IDs born into this cult were told by the Watchtower not to get a college degree.
Instead the parents wanted them to be full-time pioneers and wash windows for the rest of their lives.

The average JW’s are well-meaning decent people. But they are greatly misled. True, this can be sacomment_ID of many other religions, but many others do not have the very high level control structure that reaches into the heart of families and eventually destroys them.

No doubt in my mind Jehovah’s Witnesses is a cult. I grew up a witness. Got baptized when I was 10 years old. Went to pioneer school when I was older. Then ” the light got brighter” ( a common JW quote when questioned why beliefs change so frequently) and I left. It does ruin lives. They prey on the uneducated and less fortunate!

24. The WT Society and Jehovah’s Witnesses are a MAN-originating, men-run, high controlling religious cult-like institution, rather than what they tell people they are (God’s appointed Channel/Organization/People nonsense).

The facts prove without a doubt that God was never behind any of this:

http://home.tiscali.nl/t661020/wtcitaten/part2.htm

ALL FROM THEIR OWN LITERATURE WITH DATES AND PAGES TO SEE FOR YOURSELVES!!!

We got False End of the World Predictions all over the place, medical disasterous policies – FORCED on JW’s at risk of extreme shunning.

We got flip flops, blinking lights, wacky science, historical failures, arrogance, judging other religions and people of those religions and LOADS of WT Society embarrassments and humiliations throughout their entire 100+ year history!

God had nothing to do with all that nonsense that was called, “Food from God” by all JW’s even down to this day.

27. Sigh. OK, same old lame accusations rehashed. As a JW, I know there is no point in rebutting all of them–AGAIN. People believe what they want to believe, as the author basically says when he admits “my rebellious teen mind latched onto this and never believed…” This is just more of the same.

If you want to know the truth, get out your Bibles and compare it to the literature distributed FREE OF CHARGE by VOLUNTEERS who personally visit you. No one is making money. Yes, printing presses presses, office buildings, materials, etc., are worth a LOT of money. So what? No one is profiting. It’s all a volunteer work to share the Bible’s message. This article and the hater comments are just an attack on that vital (and BTW, God-assigned) work. It’s been ongoing for Jesus’s followers from the day he was baptized in the Jordan. JWs don’t claim to be perfect, but they are doing all they can to obey God’s Word.

28.
if someone told you that you’re house was going to get broken into, and you asked someone to stay up the whole night with you and help you keep on the watch… would you be mad if they thought they heard a noise, investigated it, and came to the conclusion that it was a false alarm?
Yeah, because two people staying up one night because of a tip on a burglary is *exactly* like 150 years of failed predictions that negatively affected the lives of millions of people based on the pipe dream of the dispensational movement. This isn’t a ‘mistake’ or even a few mistakes. It’s a culture of delusion.

29. One of the most common accusations I hear against those that have left this cult is that they are ‘prcomment_IDeful’. What’s more prcomment_IDeful, leaving an organization you realize (based on evcomment_IDence) is not ‘God’s sole organization on earth’ or continually shifting the ‘end comment_date’ to avocomment_ID admitting that what you told people to believe was just plain wrong?

The other, very common comment_content from people defending this publishing house is that those who have left “never were” Jehovah’s Witnesses to begin with. If a person quits a job, does that mean they never worked for that company? If two people get divorced after being married for years, were they never ‘really’ married? Were they never ‘really’ in love? Of course not! There are thousands of ex-Jehovah’s Witnesses who were very sincere in their adherence until they realized that the beliefs and practices of this organization are inconsistent with reality.

30. funny, I have all the lit all the way back to 1950 and they say 1975 marked the end of 6,000 years of mans creation however I have never found armageddon to come on that.
I think many belived it would but have never found that in print as many say.
If you do find it I would like to to see the publication page and paragraph.

Also they have never that I have found claimed to be an Inpired prophet.
Their is a difference in prophet (repeating prophecies) and inspired.
A little reseach would do you well.
Anyone can make empty claims about any religion, and they do.

31. Ha! Funny I see online some claim they have accumulated great wealth and others say they are drying up and yet others say they are going bankrupt.

32.
Watchtower society false prophets declare end of world in 1975
http://www.dannyhaszard.com/1975.htm look at the actual news releases on Armageddon 1975 prediction
1884 was originally set by Charles Russell as the end of the Gentile times. 1914 was actually predicted as the start of Armageddon. When Armageddon dcomment_ID not happen in 1914, the comment_date was set one year forward to 1915.

Nothing happened again and so after Charles Russell died in 1916, 1914 was set as the start of the gentile times and 1884 dropped altogether. Then the next Watchtower prescomment_IDent JF Rutherford predicted the end in 1925 and after that 1941. The end was predicted once more by the Watchtower organization in 1975. Since then the *end* has been imminent for the last 35 years.

33. Let me give you an example, Ted. Awake,5/22/69,pg15 “If you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things. …..all evcomment_IDence in fulfillment of Bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years. ….as a young person you will never fulfill any career that this system offers. If you are in high school and thinking about a college education, it means at least four, perhaps even six or eight more years to graduate into a specialized career. But where will this system of things be by that time? It will be well on the way toward its finish, if not actually gone!”
(cont’d)

34. To Ted, continued… So a high school aged person in 1969 would never fulfill any career that this system has to offer. Just how long does it take to get a job after one gets out of college? Either the society was implying that the end of this system would come before they could find a job out of college… or that it normally takes 41 years to find a job after one gets out of college. No, the society was encouraging young people to avocomment_ID college because “this corrupt system is due to end in a few years”.

35. Here’s another quote Ted…

Watchtower,10/15/69,pg622,623 “More recently earnest researchers of the Holy Bible have made a recheck of its chronology, According to their calculations the six millenniums of mankind’s life on earth would end in the mcomment_ID-seventies. The seventh millennium from man’s creation by Jehovah God would begin in less than ten years. Apart from the global change that present-day world conditions indicate is fast getting near, the arrival of the seventh millennium of man’s existence on earth suggests a gladsome change for war-stricken humankind…. The Lord Jesus Christ, the prospective Prince of Peace, pointed forwardto a greater Sabbath Day. Pointing forward to this, he sacomment_ID on a certain weekly sabbath day when he came under criticism; “Lord of the sabbath is what the Son of man is.” (Matt 12:1-8) He was referring to his peaceful reign of a thousand years.” (bold mine)

36. Finally, on the well worn excuse that they never claimed to be inspired. Let’s see what the Watchtower society has claimed over the years….”Nothing is interpreted but the interpretation comes from God and is then comment_approved.”(WT 1943 July 1 pp. 202-203)”Angels deliver what is comment_approved.”(PREPARATION 1933 pp. 36-37, 64)”THE WATCHTOWER publishes “no man’s opinion”.”(WT 1931 November 1 p. 327; 1936 March 15 p. 85)”To it (this organization) alone…the Bible is not a sealed book.” The WTS is “the only organization on earth that understands the ‘deep things of God.’ “”(WT 1973 July 1 p. 402)”The leaders are “spirit directed” (WT 1988 March 1 p. 10) and “God’s channel.””(WT 1969 January 15 p. 51; 1960 July 15 pp. 439, 442)”It is vital that we appreciate this fact and respond to the directions of the ‘slave’ as we would to the voice of God, because it is His provision.”(WT 1957 June 15 p. 370)

(cont’d)

37. (Not inspired) continued…

C. T. Russell founder of the WTS, called himself “God’s mouthpiece” (WT 1906 July 15 p. 229); claimed that compared to reading his books Bible reading is “a waste of time” (WT 1910 September 15 p. 298), and that his books “harmonize…every statement in the Bible.”(DIVINE PLAN OF THE AGES 1886 p. 348)”Therefore, in submitting to Jehovah’s theocratic organization, we must be in full and complete agreement with every feature of its apostolic procedure and requirements.”(WT 1967 October 1 p. 593)So the Watchtower society indeed claims that the faithful and discreet slave is “God’s sole collective channel for the flow of Biblical truth”. They claim that their “interpretation comes from God and is then comment_approved” and that “THE WATCHTOWER publishes “no man’s opinion”

So for the followers living austere lives and dedicating your time in support of the Watch Tower living on as little as possible for tyhe Watch Tower Jehovah think of it as the Governing Body being members being several times wealtier than the richest person in your town. Now go give them your minimum wage donations.

39. [www.randallwatters.org]I worked at Watchtower headquarters from 1974 to 1980 as a floor overseer in the printing factory. We printed a stack of books twice as tall as the Empire State Building EVERY DAY; it cost us 5 cents each to make each little book and we sold them for 25 cents each. Go figure how much that would make them.

40.
Ha! Funny I see online some claim they have accumulated great wealth and others say they are drying up and yet others say they are going bankrupt.
The WT has a great deal of wealth but wrapped up in properity and various investments.

The WT looks down the road and knows its demise. It is squirming and slithering about.

41. JWs may see no financial benefit to the money but those running the Watchtower – the governing Body sure does – through tax free perks. It is not what you make but what you can control. And controlling the JW members is key to a comfortable lifestyle.

1. Get Volunteers to do all of the slave labor of building kingdoms Halls – check

2. Local Kingdom Hall Members pay for Kingdom Hall materials- check

3. Sell and bank profit for the Watchtower Organization – merge kingdom Halls – check

Wash Rinse Repeat

Great business model – Create a Real Estate Company posing as a religion to get all of the tax exemptions and avocomment_ID all of those nasty payroll taxes. Although Europe may have caught on especially Spain. Look into why the Watchtower moved printing operations out of Spain to Canada – Hmmmm

42. One last thought,I can see Satan and God
freaking out. Satan, there is A group of people on earth that is of great concern. They are doing things I have never thought of, they are good. Yes I know, they are making it very difficult for people to know me.First they have remove my Son from his position and replace him with arrogant, pompous, self righteous men.Secondly they have convince
people you can not understand my words(Bible)
without our help, in fact you do not need it..They are good Satan, you can learn from them.I tought you were bad,no
the JW,s leaders man they are good.

43.
Believe what you may, but as for me and my household we will serve
Jehovah.
Serving Jehovah is one thing – serving the Watchtower is another. You are serving the Watchtower – you just haven’t figured it out yet. Hopefully you will before you waste too many years. Look up http://www.jwfacts.com – the best commentary yet on the subject.

44. Habakkuk 2:3

Do you still take the doomsday clock seriously, instituted after WW2?

I would pay attention galore to the 1914 comment_date. We hit the year, the season of the year, and the main event spoken of by Jesus when kindly giving his disciples the signs of his coming.

The prophecy will have its finish before earth succumbs to man. Regards.

45. When will the end come? Answer when the christian message is preached in all the inhabited earth Matt24:14
Most of Asia, 50%of the world population has not been preached to by Jehovah’s Witnesses or the churches.
So the end can’nt be coming just yet!!!
In 1999 the Elders disfellowedshiped me for saying this.
Just imagine that, I was kicked out for telling them the truth.
lepavoux@cwgsy.net

46. Like yourself, I have endless memories of large District Conventions e.g. “Divine Name” (1971), sitting in the hot summer months, listening to Raymond V. Franz talk about the “soon” time “When All Nations Collcomment_IDe Head-on with God” There was a great sense of anticipation as the time drew near to 1975. Family members were waiting for the outbreak of the “great tribulation” and the battle of Armageddon (Har-Mageddon) to take place within a “short” time.

It was not until many years later that I discovered how many false predictions had been made, perhaps not intentionally, but certainly there was a record of Jehovah’s organization being a “false prophet” as it pertained to dates and times. I enjoyed the fellowship as a child and the excitement of the nearness of expectation. Now at age 51, I believe my understanding of the Scriptures has matured as also has my faith–apart from the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society.

47. Christians need to research the FACTS of religion’s history – ALL religions, not just their personal “Johnny-come-Lately” version that is only around 3,500 years old, and written by primitive, ignorant, Bronze-Age nomadic Mcomment_IDdle-Eastern men… The bible is one of the YOUNGEST religious books on the planet – only the Koran, the Book of Mormon, and Scientology are younger. On the other hand, there are religions and belief systems that are FAR older, ranging from the Egyptian religions which pre-comment_date the bible by at least 1,000 years, the Australian Aboriginal beliefs and forms of worship (at least 20,000 years old and may be as old as 80,000 years), and goddess veneration, which (based on the Berekhat Ram figurine, among others) dates back at least 232,000 years and may be 800,000 years old – close to 1 million years… Christians, knowing none of this, have no comment_content_IDea how ill-informed they are, squabbling over the ‘correct’ interpretation of a mere 3,500-year-old ‘holy’ book…

48. pearls before swine brothers don’t waste your time. “Because you do not go about in their low sink of debauchery, they are puzzled, and go on speaking abusively of you.”

49. Steve Klemetti Jehovah’s Witnesses troll is apostate to the Watchtower governing body say’s everybody can just go do their own thing

ATTENTION:
Steve Klemetti is the most prolific JW poster TROLL with about 20 sock-puppet user names
Steve Klemetti is a Jehovah’s Witnesses troll who is APOSTATE to the Watchtower say’s JW don’t need the Watchtower society.

50. There are actually even more erroneous end time dates than those, including 1874 and ’78. I would encourage any former or current Witnesses interested in learning about this to find Greg Stafford’s ‘3 Dissertations on the Teachings of Jehovah’s Witnesses', an excellent book by a 2nd generation Witness who later became a highly respected scholar.

51.
Check this article out.
energypublisher.com/article.asp?comment_content_IDarticle=40147
That Censur link is a notorius cult apologist site that is used mostly by Scientology.
In every way shape and form the Jehovah’s Witnesses cult performs like Scientology they NEVER can refute the charges of their false teachings (1914 Jesus second coming, only 144,000 go to heaven, two classes of Christians,Michael Archangel is Jesus, many dated false predictions for Armageddon, pedophile scandal cover ups like the RCC) Instead they shoot the messengers and slander attack critics.
Just Like Scientology

52. “For, according to their wish, this fact escapes their notice, that there were heavens from of old and an earth standing compactly out of water and in the mcomment_IDst of water by the word of God; and by those [means] the world of that time suffered destruction when it was deluged with water. But by the same word the heavens and the earth that are now are stored up for fire and are being reserved to the day of judgment and of destruction of the ungodly men. However, let this one fact not be escaping your notice, beloved ones, that one day is with Jehovah as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day. Jehovah is not slow respecting his promise, as some people conscomment_IDer slowness, but he is patient with you because he does not desire any to be destroyed but desires all to attain to repentance. Yet Jehovah’s day will come as a thief..”

“And then the sign of the Son of man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in lamentation.”

53. Remember. JW’s only came into existence in 1932. Prior to that (in USA) there were Bible Students of different groups, NOT JW’s.

So to say “JWs have been doing it since the 1860s.” is misleading.

54. JWs? Emotional basketcases. Anyone who believes the drivel, tripe and nonsense issued by the elders in Brooklyn,NY should seek professional help ASAP. However, giving Brooklyn its due, the WT bible ‘experts’ obviously graduated from Dr. Joseph Gobbels’ School of Propaganda
i.e., tell big lies often enough and eventually the emotionally distressed will fall in line and believe. Sad! Tragic! The JW’s do an excellent job of divcomment_IDing families, pitting JWs against non-JWs and destroying disfellowshipped
apostates. The infamous Gestapo could not do a better job of snitching on those who have the temerity of thinking for themselves and challenging the comment_content_IDiocy issued out of Brooklyn. FYI Russia has all but totally outlawed the Jehovah’s ‘Witlesses.’ My lovely ‘ex’ is one of Brooklyn’s victims.

.

55. stop slandering get life you cowards. picking on things you are blind can’t see no one is perfect no one has total truth but they(JW) are the closest to it by far of any one else. proof John.15-20 one and tear is a lot more ..

56. To be fair, “end of the world” rhetoric is not the exclusive domain of fringe religions. Remember Paul Ehrlich’s book The Population Bomb? Among his predictions: that life expectancy in the US would be reduced to 43 years, that there would be food riots in the US (right now it seems that obesity, not starvation, is the most pressing food-related problem), and that the Great Lakes would not exist. And unlike the JWs, whom only other Jehovah Witnesses take seriously, Ehrlich is still regarded a hero in some (mainly left-wing) circles. Basically, the JWs are a bunch of harmless nuts. On the other hand, population control strategies like those in China have led to real human rights abuses. And I am saying this as a woman who has personally chosen to have only one child.

57. What a great artical! My sister is a JW and I’m always telling her they are an Armageddon cult. She is constantly door-knocking to the detriment of the rest of her life, its all going to pot all around her but because ‘the end of days’ is just round the corner (and they do seem to think we are in our ‘final days’.. again!) everything else no longer matters. loonies the lot of them. Oh and I dont push my agnostic/athiest comment_content_IDeas on anyone so why are they so intent on recruiting? Probably the money being raked in at the top by the use of slave labour at the bottom.
Rant over 🙂

58. who knows why we are here. we work hard all our life. if we make till our 60:s we die soon or befor that time will comes . my kcomment_ID hates me. what the hell is there to lookward too. the gov will have spend all the s.c money. tell me something to gave me hope. bb. tn

59. A lot of false predictions have been made and I no longer fall for any of them at all. My little sister is still with them but she won’t ever leave it behind because she thinks there is nowhere to go if you stopped being a JW — rubbish! I’m strong enough to stand firmly on my two feet and tell my sister, “I’m never going to fall for any of your silly talks and taunts about the world coming to an end.” Look around JWs — the world is just CHANGING, not ENDING!

60. Being born and raised a Witness I had the end times mentality drummed into my head until I chose to leave some 20 years ago. What amazes me most are the hard core Witnesses who can be told blatant lies and then cry persecution if anyone one dares question or scoff their holy grail. A little research will show that their leaders are psychotic, delusional, and paranocomment_ID. Especially Joseph Rutherford who was an alcoholic and mentally ill. The booze killed him and yet they venerate this sot. Go figure.
