Today, millions of Sikhs around the world celebrate the anniversary of the birth of the founder of Sikhism, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. I am delighted to extend my warmest greetings to the Sikh community in Canada on this special occasion.

For generations, Sikh Canadians have honoured the traditions and teachings of their faith. Guru Nanak’s enduring message of peace and respect for all religions holds a special significance in Canada’s harmoniously pluralistic society. Our nation’s cultural fabric is a magnificent and resilient weave of diverse cultures and faiths, which we proudly preserve and showcase. The fabric of Canadian life is immeasurably enriched by the contributions of hundreds of thousands of members of our Sikh community.

As you gather with family and friends in this time of reverence, I hope that you and your loved ones will be blessed with health, happiness and prosperity in the year to come. On behalf of my colleagues in the Government of Canada, please accept my best wishes for an enjoyable and blessed Gurpurab.

Sat Sri Akal.

The Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper, P.C., M.P.
Prime Minister of Canada
