The Rotunda at City Hall, Toronto, was the historic venue of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC), the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and the Organising Committee Commonwealth Games, Canada, on Wednesday, April 14.
 
Earlier that afternoon, the Queen’s Baton arrived in Canada and a Relay ceremony was held at Metro Hall, Toronto. The Queen’s Baton Relay is a traditional curtain raiser to the Games. Subsequently, the ICCC, the Consulate General of India in Toronto and the CII hosted a reception to honour athletes of Team Canada that would be participating in Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games. ICCC is a bronze sponsor for Commonwealth Games Canada.
 
Asha Luthra, President, ICCC, BB Kaura, Joint Director, Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi and Renuka Singh, Director, International Relations, CII, signed the MoU on behalf of their organisations. Tarlochan Singh, Member of the Indian Parliament, was present at the signing.
 
The Organising Committee of Commonwealth Games and the CII have formed Business Club India to promote business and furthering economic activities between India and other countries during the Commonwealth Games. Under the MoU, Business Club India would work with ICCC to take a business delegation to India during the Commonwealth Games in October 2010. In turn, ICCC will promote the activities of Business Club India in Canada by generating awareness and interest.
 
A CII business delegation and a Commonwealth Games Roadshow is visiting Canada to coincide with the Queen’s Baton relay between April 13 and April 16. The delegation and the roadshow are traveling with the Queen’s Baton to Toronto and Ottawa.
 
The QBR 2010 Delhi will showcase India to the world as the baton traverses 70 Commonwealth nations via a 240-day journey, culminating with a 100-day tour of India. The baton started its journey on October 29th, 2009 at Buckingham Palace where Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II handed over the baton to the host nation, India. The baton contains a special message from Her Majesty that will be read at the Opening Ceremony of the XIX Commonwealth Games on October 3, 2010.
