BoucharDanse Artistic Director Sylvie Bouchard commissioned Susie Burpee, Louis-Martin Charest, Denise Fujiwara and collaborated herself with Louis Laberge-Côté to create performance vignettes that look at love throughout the ages – from Ancient Greece through to Modern Times.
Performed by Brendan Wyatt, Sylvie Bouchard and Christian Laurin; Histoire d’amour
is directed by multi-faceted artist Marie-Josée Chartier, with video projections by Ayelen Liberona, costume and set design by Cheryl Lalonde, music and sound design by Thomas Ryder Payne and lighting design by Kimberly Purtell.Using a variety of choreographic voices, styles, and visions Histoire d’amour takes the audience on an eclectic voyage through time, and within the heart, to explore different notions of love: true, platonic, courtly, unattainable, obsessive, and much more.
For example – Susie Burpee delves into intimacy in the modern times; Louis-Martin Charest displays the poetry and torment of the romantic era; and Denise Fujiwara uses Butoh, Japanese poetry and images of "dying for love" as a base for her vignette.
Christian Laurin acts as the intermediary between the performers and the audience; an old soul who tells a tale, guiding the dancers’ journey through the ages.
