SMALL PRINT TORONTO is delighted to announce that celebrated author-artist CHRIS WILKIE is coming to CHILDREN’S STORY JAM, the popular new workshop series wherein leading kidlit authors get feedback on works-in-progress from their most discerning critics: young readers. Literary astronauts between 2-8 years old can weigh in on Wilkies eagerly awaited debut picture book ROCKET SHIP SOUP, during an afternoon hosted by VIKKI VANSICKLE featuring out-of-this world crafts, drawing and songs. To encourage a spirit of anything goes during the Jam sessions, we’ve come up with a few ground rules: Authors arent giving a public performance. Readers come to participate in a closed workshop process, rather than to get a sneak peak of a new work. Adults ride free as long as they behave themselves. There is also a free jam section, during which young wordsmiths can bring and share their own writing, or create something on the spot, based on prompts like the theme of the day. While it may be new to Toronto, Childrens Story Jam is part of a long tradition. After all, countless classic works of childrens literature stem from jam sessions between an inventive author and a group of young listeners.
