Varley Art Gallery Holds 14th Annual Fine Art Auction

The Varley Art Gallery 14th Annual Fine Art Auction will take place on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the Varley Art Gallery of Markham, 216 Main Street Unionville in Markham. The evening begins with a Preview and Silent Auction at 5:30 p.m., accompanied by gourmet food and beverage, and followed by the Live Auction at 7:30 p.m. featuring Auctioneer Stephen Ranger.

Original Canadian artwork, contributed by prestigious art galleries, and independent artists in the GTA, will be on the block during the Live Auction. This exciting evening will also include live entertainment provided by Robert Scott, solo, jazz duo and trio pianist. Robert is a multi-talented, virtuosic pianist, producer, composer and lyricist. His highly personal and passionate performing style has garnered praise and respect from all corners of the industry.

Each year, the Varley-McKay Art Foundation of Markham organizes an annual Fine Art Auction to support the Varley Art Gallery. The goal of this year’s auction – Art for All: Enriching Lives with Art – is to raise enough funds to support a large portion of the educational activities offered to the community through the Varley Art Gallery’s many programs.

“The development of the arts is important to our community and as one of York Region’s most popular tourist attractions, the Varley Art Gallery has garnered a reputation for its high quality exhibitions and educational programs,” said Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “Their hands-on art related activities educate and encourage an appreciation of the arts in people of all ages.”

The Varley-McKay Art Foundation and the Gallery work hand in hand to fulfill their mandate and offer a sustainable vision for the benefit of all. Dedicated to engaging the community through innovative and quality programming, the Varley Art Gallery is a place to learn, create and experience some of the best in artistic expression.

“This much-anticipated event provides an opportunity for friends, neighbours and art lovers alike to come to together to show their support for the Varley Art Gallery,” said Ward 3 Councillor Don Hamilton. “I am sure this event will be one to remember and that you will appreciate the original artwork in the live auction as well as the entertainment and gourmet culinary creations.”
