Outfest 2012: "Love Free or Die"

Outfest 2012 presents a screening of the documentary Love Free or Die, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, winning the U.S. Documentary Special Jury Prize for An Agent of Change. In 2003, the Episcopal Church in New Hampshire came under fire when it became the first to elect an openly gay bishop. Director Macky Alston follows Bishop Gene Robinson into the breach of his struggle for equality. While resolute in his spiritual calling, Robinson has grown increasingly critical of the central role that religious institutions have played in fostering homophobia and hatred. Robinson has been quoted as saying, “If my story can help a young boy or girl in their teens believe they can have a wonderful and productive life and family, then it’s worth my putting up with a film crew following me around for two years in order to comfort and inspire them.” Ticketholders are invited to a post-screening reception in the DGA Atrium.
