Harmony Gold Music Inc (Los Angeles, CA)
Outfest 2012 presents Margarita, which captured awards at this year’s Women’s International Film Festival and Inside Out Toronto. Canadian Power-couple Gail and Ben have all the visible advantages of two successful careers – a beautiful home, vacations and a nanny to care for their teen-aged daughter, Mali. Inside the beautiful home, however, complacency has left the once idealistic couple disconnected from their dreams, from their child and from each other. On top of this, some amateur investing has left them just about broke. Margarita, their pretty and vivacious Mexican nanny, works hard but also knows how to have fun. She enjoys her cute law-student girlfriend and ladies-only hot-tub parties. When her employers’ financial situation forces them to fire her, Margarita must get married or face deportation. Filmmakers Dominique Cardona and Laurie Colbert, who won Outfest’s Outstanding Emerging Talent Award in 2007 for Finn’s Girl, return with a buoyant comedic drama about love, loyalty and the families we create.
