Covenant Presbyterian Church (Long Beach, CA)

Mozart's "Requiem"

The emotionally charged and subtly crafted Requiem will come alive as the powerful Long Beach Camerata Singers and Symphony Orchestra opens the season by performing the piece that lay in Mozart’s dying hands. At the urging of Mozart’s widow Constanza, student Franz Süßmayr completed Requiem, and it remains one of the most revered works that Mozart ever wrote, celebrated for its ability to capture a full range and depth of human emotion at its highest and lowest points. In addition, the Camerata Singers will perform James MacMillan’s stirring “A New Song” for organ and chorus as well as Tarik O’Regan’s stunning “The Ecstasies Above” for three choirs and string quartet. Performed within the acoustically friendly and calming surroundings of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, this evening promises to leave you with a lasting appreciation for these works and the performers who passionately present their artistic talents for your enjoyment.
