Beloved Hollywood star Ernest Borgnine passed away in July, 2012 at the age of 95 after an amazing six-decade career on film and TV. The American Cinematheque pays tribute to the winner of the 2011 SAG Lifetime Achievement Award with a double feature of some of his earliest film work. Borgnine’s unforgettable turn as Paddy Chayefsky’s Marty, a lonely-hearted bachelor who might finally have found love, won him an Oscar. In 1956’s The Catered Affair, Borgnine co-stars with Bette Davis and Debbie Reynolds in a family drama about a Bronx cabdriver whose wife desperately wants an expensive wedding for their daughter. The recently-deceased Gore Vidal penned the screenplay, which was based on another of Paddy Chayefsky’s stories.
