Whittier Community Theatre presents Fiddler on the Roof for its early fall production. One of the most beloved stage musicals of all time — and the winner of an impressive nine Tony Awards — the show, set in 1905, centers on Tevye, a poor dairyman who tries to instill in his five daughters the traditions of his tight-knit Jewish village (shtetl) in the face of changing social values and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. The lush score is filled with such unforgettable songs as “If I Were a Rich Man,” “Matchmaker, Matchmaker,” “Sunrise, Sunset” and “To Life.” It’s a timeless tale of love and learning to cope with an ever-changing world.
