Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal Citywalk (Universal City, CA)
The reigning “Queen of Hip-Hop Soul,” Miss Mary J. Blige, and the recently-resurgent king of neo-soul D’Angelo co-headline the sensational Liberation Tour. Singer-songwriter-producer-actress Mary J. Blige is a nine-time Grammy winner who’s released 10 Top 10 albums in a row, starting with What’s the 411? and continuing through 2011’s successful My Life II … The Journey Continues (Act I). Her massive collection of hits includes “Not Gon’ Cry,” “Family Affair,” “Be Without You,” “The One,” “Mr. Wrong” and many more. After a decade away from the business, singer-songwriter D’Angelo has re-emerged in a big way, with acclaimed performances at the BET Awards and the House of Blues, in anticipation of his first new release since 2000’s Grammy-winning Voodoo, entitled James River. His first smash single was 1996’s “Lady,” and he’s famed for his innovative nude video for the iconic hit “Untitled (How Does It Feel).” Canadian R&B singer Melanie Fiona, whose hits include “It Kills Me” and “4 AM,” opens the show.
