Charles Swenson has been creating for most of his life. Starting his career at the Charles Eames’ design office, he then stepped into the position as principal animation designer at Filmfair taking over for Jimmy Murakami.

When Murakami started a production company of his own with partner Fred Wolf, Swenson joined them, in time becoming a partner in what would become Murakami/Wolf/Swenson.

He continued working on hit TV projects such as Harry Nillson’s The Point (ABC’s first Movie of the Week), Peter Yarrow’s Puff the Magic Dragon and Strawberry Shortcake, The Blinkins and Carlton Your Doorman.

His film credits include Twice Upon a Time, The Magic Pear Tree which was his first short film and Academy Award nomination in 1968, The Naked Ape for Universal, Dirty Duck for New World Pictures, and The Mouse and His Child for Sanrio.

After working with Lucas Films, Atari and other prominent companies in the visual arts field, Swenson joined Klasky Csupo on “Rugrats,” “Santo Bugito” and “Aahhh!! Real Monsters” as creative producer. He won various awards including an Emmy for Best Children’s Program, a Humanitas Award and a Cable Ace Award.   

He created, executive produced and wrote, Mike, Lu and Og for the cartoon network, and then performed the same functions on Bookashkis, a short film that has won over 20 awards from festivals world-wide.   

Now working full time as an artist, Charles is very excited about showing his latest body of work. Nudes and Shoes is the focus of this new exhibition. Originally painted in 2007, the painting of classic nudes have now have been adjusted to include a high-heeled shoe or boot floating past the model. Fashion and its importance to the modern day female comes to mind.

After forging a friendship with renowned clinical psychologist Dr. Michelle Golland, who admired Swenson’s art in a downtown gallery, Charles has agreed to show at her new space in Larchmont.

Dr. Michelle Golland has been practicing for over sixteen years and is an expert in her field. Known as one of the go-to psychology authorities regularly appearing on CNN, Golland is also an avid art lover.

Her newly acquired offices are aptly dubbed “The Loft @ Larchmont Village – It is a place of “Healing Activism.” On Saturday September 8th, Charles Swenson will be the featured artist to be showcased as part of the grand opening of the new arts community center.

The opening reception will be held from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at “The Loft @ Larchmont Village – It is a place of “Healing Activism” located at 5700 Melrose Avenue Loft #201 Los Angeles, CA 90038.
