Set in 19th-century London, the story follows the title character, who after being banished for 15 years on false charges, returns to exact his revenge on those who wronged him. Teaming up with local pie maker Mrs. Lovett, they open a barbershop in which he slits the throats of customers and has them baked into pies … or does he? This darkly funny show has been shocking and delighting audiences worldwide since its 1979 Broadway premiere won eight Tony Awards. It has since been made into a hit film by Tim Burton with Johnny Depp.
