"Cardboard Capital"

Inspired by John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath, Gabriel Rivas Gomez’s new drama Cardboard Capital shows that the themes of work and class put forth by that seminal novel have never been more relevant. When two homeless people, one deaf and one a pregnant illegal immigrant, find work at an Amazon-style mega-warehouse, they soon realize that they are valued less than the cardboard boxes they are packing and shipping. As the pair struggle to find their place amidst a ragtag group of vagabond workers who don’t even speak the same language, a moving examination of immigration, commercialization and the plight of the modern blue-collar American worker unfolds.
