"Letters From Zora"

Zora Neale Hurston was a writer, anthropologist, voodoo priestess and overall Renaissance woman. Drawing inspiration from Hurston’s personal letters, novelist Gabrielle Pina pieces together a provocative play about this extraordinary figure whose life was filled with artistic triumphs as well as abject poverty and self-doubt. Letters From Zora explores Hurston’s controversial views on integration, segregation and social justice. Veteran actress Vanessa Bell Calloway plays the role of Zora, and Anita Dashiell-Sparks directs this multimedia production featuring live music composed by Ron McCurdy and archival images collected by Margie Labadie. Discover Hurston’s prose, her distinctive group of friends and foes and her unique view of a jazz-age world.
