National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America

The National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America makes its Walt Disney Concert Hall debut. Each summer, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute brings together 120 of the brightest young players from across the country to take part in a two-week training residency with leading orchestra musicians. Then these remarkable teenagers embark on a tour to some of the great music capitals of the world. For this tour, David Robertson conducts an electrifying program that begins with Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, a great American classic that pulses with fiery rhythms. The orchestra is joined by Gil Shaham for Britten’s intense and virtuosic Violin Concerto. Samuel Carl Adams’ innovative style is on vivid display in a special new work commissioned by Carnegie Hall. The program wraps up with perennial favorite Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky.
