Steam Whistle Brewing is proud to show off its whiskers at this month’s art show entitled “Meow Wow”. We invite you to the opening on Wednesday, August 6th, 2014 between 7-11p.m. at Steam Whistle Brewing (255 Bremner Blvd). The exhibit will remain on display for the month of August.

It was Sigmund Freud who once said “Time spent with cats is never wasted”- this may help explain the incredible cultural fascination with felines. However, the cat’s power extends beyond the realm of viral videos. Cats have held a captive audience for millennia; in works of art, literature, in the home and now online. While these depictions have been both positive and negative, one cannot deny the staying power of the imagery associated with cats, particularly their relationship with women: Witches familiars, ancient fertility goddesses, crazy cat ladies, Japanese cat girls and sexy leather clad feline villain women all show different sides of the ongoing cultural relationship between cats and women. But why are people so drawn to these felines?

Meow Wow explores these relationships with a collection of cat themed artwork by a selected group of women artists. Each artist has been free to interpret the theme of cats and women as they see fit, showcasing their unique artistic style and approach.
