Whittier Center Theatre (Whittier, CA)

"The Pajama Game"

The dangers of workplace romances are explored to both comic and dramatic effect in this revival of the 1954 Tony Award-winning musical. At the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory, sparks fly between Sid Sorokin, the new factory superintendent, and Babe Williams, leader of the union grievance committee. Their stormy relationship comes to a head when the workers strike for a pay increase, setting off a conflict between management and labor, not to mention a battle of the sexes. A true slice-of-’50s-era-life, the still-resonant storyline also boasts a timeless jazzy score by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross, featuring songs like “Steam Heat,” “Hey There” and “Hernando’s Hideaway.” This ever-popular show won the Tony for Best Revival when it appeared on Broadway in 2006, starring Harry Connick, Jr.
