Long Beach Shakespeare Company’s Richard Goad Theatre (Long Beach, CA)

"Richard III"

Even though the bones of the last Plantagenet king of England — complete with hideously twisted spine — were recently discovered buried underneath a Leicester parking lot, his spirit dwells in SoCal, thanks to the lively production of Richard III from the Long Beach Shakespeare Company. One of Shakespeare’s darkest and most charismatic characters, the much maligned King Richard (i.e. that “poisonous, bunch-backed toad”) is at the center of a thrilling melodrama filled with intrigue, sword fights, murder and (of course) ghosts. All the hallmarks of Shakespeare, whether he’s in his tragic, comedic or historic modes, are to be found in this perennially popular play. Experience an ambitious and thoroughly entertaining production at the Richard Goad Theatre.
