Chromolume Theatre at The Attic (Los Angeles, CA)
Seven women are meeting up to discuss their natural hair in SUPERNATURAL: A YouTube star, a doctor, an historian, a writer, a nurse, a half-Jewish schoolteacher and a preacher’s wife. In this funny and insightful play, hear each of their unique journeys of confronting their hair, their sense of what’s beautiful and themselves. You’ll feel like a privileged eavesdropper while listening to the inspiring monologues written by Emmy-nominated writer Candace Kelley, Audrey Kelley and Gilda Rogers. Candace Kelley has been part of the natural hair movement for years and released the book Coif Cuisine: Natural Hair Recipes and Side Dishes for the Natural Hair & Now and will release The Little Black Book for Curly Girls soon. Audrey Kelley studied sketch comedy writing at Second City and wrote the one-woman show Id’ Never Say This in Public. Rogers is an award-winning producer, journalist and historian who often speaks about hair history. The women’s one-act play aims to continue the conversation about natural hair and reach women of all hair textures and ethnic backgrounds. So grab your girlfriends and be ready to join a humorous and frank “hair story” celebration.
