Join Antje Ehmann and Detlef Gericke-Schnhagen for a talk on the making of “Labour in a Single Shot” 201314, a project by Ehmann and the late Harun Farocki. “Labour in a Single Shot” deals with labour: paid and unpaid, material and immaterial, rich in tradition or altogether new, within a particular cultural context. Through a series of workshops in 15 cities around the world, the project sought to produce videos of 1 to 2 minutes in length, framed only in a “single shot.”
Currently on view at the Ryerson Image Centre is Serious Games IIV by artist Harun Farocki, who suddenly passed away this summer. This video installation explores the use of virtual reality and gaming technology in U.S. military recruitment, training and after-action therapy, revealing fundamental links between technology and violence in a time of war. Since the late 1960s, Farocki has created subversive films and videos integrating his own material with footage appropriated from diverse sources, including mass media, security cameras and political propaganda.
The event is free and open to the public. Please arrive early to ensure seating. Please contact us if we can make any accommodations to ensure your inclusion in this event. This event is made possible with support from the Goethe-Institut, Toronto.
