This Oscar-nominated dark comedy is a takeoff on Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol, starring Bill Murray as a cynical TV exec whose cutthroat business practices have made him rich and powerful, but left him a cold-hearted, lonely cynic. His ruthless nature inspires a supernatural intervention when he callously fires his long-suffering yes man Elliot (Bobcat Goldthwait) on Christmas Eve. That night, he’s visited by three eccentric ghosts (played by John Forsythe, David Johansen and Carol Kane), who force him to look back on the life choices that led to the present and the grim future that awaits if he doesn’t change his ways.
