"Pictures at an Exhibition" With Dudamel

The visionary composition Pictures at an Exhibition is the highlight of this concert by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, with Dudamel wielding the conductor’s baton. Written by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky in response to the tragic death of the artist Viktor Hartmann, the piece mimics the act of walking through one of Hartmann’s exhibitions, turning 10 images into a fascinating brew of musical colors, moods and keys. And it’s just one piece of a vibrant and varied concert that also includes atmospheric music by LA Phil Conductor Laureate Esa-Pekka Salonen and a symphonic poem by Rachmaninoff.
