For the past five years, Carole J. Bufford has been heating up New York City’s nightlife circuit with her critically-acclaimed vocal and emotional range. She deals in nostalgia — hitting the stage in flapper frocks and favoring Billie Holiday tunes. But Bufford’s performances marry the past with the present. Stephen Holden of The New York Times argues Bufford’s in the running for “most likely to succeed” in the city’s cabaret scene, dubbing her a mixture of Edith Piaf and Adele.
