Walt Disney Concert Hall (Los Angeles, CA)

"Green Umbrella" Series: "European Avant-Garde" & "Theater of the Outrageous"

Join the LA Phil New Music Group for two nights of outrageous avant-garde musical experimentation and special guests in the Green Umbrella concert series. In the first program, highlighting the European avant-garde, German composer-conductor Matthias Pintscher, music director of the preeminent Ensemble InterContemporain in Paris, conducts a program of mind-expanding soundscapes that begins with Stockhausen’s 1956 tape masterpiece, which mixes a boy’s voice with electronically generated tones, and gets weirder from there. Led by LA Phil creative chair John Adams, the second evening spotlights the Theater of the Outrageous, and features the U.S. premiere of Olga Neuwirth’s Hommage à Klaus Nomi, a song cycle/video tribute to the otherworldly Berlin/NYC pop star. HK Gruber’s insane theater music piece Frankenstein!!, with its huge array of percussion and toy instruments, closes the concert.
