In order to prepare for their mother’s funeral — after her battle with Alzheimer’s comes to an end — three sisters return to their childhood home. Flooded by memories both good and bad, it’s not long before old rivalries rush back to the surface. Turning to their significant others, each sister deals with these ensuing difficulties differently (and, more often than not, hilariously). The fact is, memories are often unreliable, and discrepancies in individual recollection can (and do) lead to a mixture of anguish and amusement. Originally written by Shelagh Stephenson in 1997, The Memory of Water was made into a film called Before You Go in 2002, starring Tom Wilkinson (The Best Marigold Hotel, Michael Clayton) and Julie Walters (best known for her work in the Harry Potter film franchise and Mamma Mia!). Now it returns to its home: the stage.
