Odyssey Theatre (Los Angeles, CA)
Following in the footsteps of Greta Garbo on screen and Natasha Richardson on stage, Zoe Perry (Broadway’s Another Place) plays one of the stage’s most groundbreaking female parts, the title role of Eugene O’Neil’s Anna Christie. Through O’Neil’s visionary language and dramatic staging, the play tells the story of a young woman (Perry) with a troubled past and her relationship with her long-lost seafaring father (played by Perry’s real-life father, Jeff Perry of ABC’S mega-hit Scandal). After the two reunite, Anna strains their renewed rapport when she falls in love with a young sailor (Grey’s Anatomy Kevin McKidd)– against her father’s wishes. Neither man knows about the painful secret she’s carrying, which causes strife for everyone involved once it’s revealed. Kim Rubinstein directs this electric new production of the Pulitzer-winning Anna Christie for the acclaimed Odyssey Theatre Ensemble.
