The Blank’s Second Stage Theatre (Los Angeles, CA)
The compassionate, insightful and frequently hilarious drama Sons of the Prophet was a finalist for the 2012 Pulitzer Prize and now makes its Los Angeles premiere at The Blank’s Second Stage Theatre. Playwright Stephen Karam’s witty text explores the relationship between two Lebanese-American gay brothers as they try to navigate a series of crises. Their father has died, their uncle is losing his mind and older brother Joseph is suffering from a mysterious ailment. Plus, Joseph’s eccentric boss is pressuring him to write a memoir about his family’s tenuous connection to Kahlil Gibran, author of The Prophet. It all adds up to a remarkable story that, according to the New York Times, “shines a clarifying light into some of life’s darker passages.”
