Los Angeles County Museum of Art – Bing Theater (Los Angeles, CA)
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences continues its ongoing partnership with the Los Angeles County of Museum of Art with regular screenings in LACMA’s Bing Theater. In conjunction with the Academy’s exhibition Hollywood Costume, the theater hosts the screening series “Street Clothes: Contemporary Costuming in New Hollywood,” which uses groundbreaking urban American films like Taxi Driver and Annie Hall to demonstrate how a designer’s work can be a key element in creating contemporary characters. The “Two Sides of a Costume Designer” series spotlights the remarkable creative range of many of film’s top designers, including three-time Oscar winner Milena Canonero, whose work is featured in both Wes Anderson’s whimsical The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and Stanley Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon. And the “Return to Oz: Costuming the Big Adventures of 1985″ series celebrates the memorable costumes featured in fantasy adventures like Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure and Back to the Future.
