Hudson Guild Theatre (Hollywood, CA)
It’s diva vs. diva when Hollywood and Broadway: Gloria & Tallulah Talk saunters to the stage of L.A.’s Teatro De La O. This sassy period piece imagines a head-to-head clash between Gloria Swanson and Tallulah Bankhead, two iconic sirens of stage and screen. Set in 1951 at New York City’s famed Hotel Astor, the legendary stars are set to receive the prestigious Page One Award for Entertainment. By then, Swanson had blown audiences away with her role as Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard, while the Tony-nominated Bankhead had taken Broadway by storm and starred in Hitchcock’s Lifeboat to boot. Both had elegance, élan and ego to spare, so expect fireworks when Hollywood and Broadway puts the larger-than-life characters in a room together. With a snooping butler and an over-eager hotel clerk popping up to fan the flames, mayhem and lunacy prevail in this world premiere comedy from L.A.-based fashion designer Octavio Carlin.
